Omri Shor sees 3 main forces in the healthcare industry colliding to create a “perfect storm” for better patient engagement technologies.

Shor is CEO and co-founder of Medisafe, a company that creates digital prescription adherence tools. Speaking to Healthcare Analytics News during the Digital Pharma East meeting last month in Philadelphia, he laid out those 3 conditions and explained what they mean for the industry moving forward.

The first is an increased focus on patient centricity. “The patient, first and foremost, is a person, and we need to think about them as human and understand their condition to focus on how we can provide value to that individual,” he said.

Next is the migration towards data-driven approaches. With the patient in mind and the data in hand, companies can better personalize treatment management technologies.

The last force is the value-based care movement. It unites the different elements of the industry under a common goal, Shor said: “You start to see pharma companies on one end, with insurance on the other end, working hand-in-hand to try to improve outcomes.”

Too much of the industry remains reliant on one-size-fits-all approaches, Shor explained. “We do not wear the same size clothing nor the same color, right?” he asked. Different patients may be looking for different information delivered in different ways, and healthtech companies need to adjust.

“Up until now … you create the video, you build it, you put it on ‘yourbrand.com’ and you expect to create engagement based on that,” he said. “I truly believe, as an individual and as the CEO of a company, that path should not be continued. We should think of people as individuals and try to personalize the experience exactly to them.”
