Keeping Up with the Changes in Health Tech

While patient engagement and putting the data in the patient’s hands was a main focus at HIMSS this year, technology experts were also talking about coding and other aspects of the software.

After talking to several cybersecurity professionals and people who have been in the space for years, I found it very interesting that although to me, they seemed incredibly knowledgeable about their topic of expertise, the experts mentioned that there is always room to learn more.

Jeff Fried is the leader of product management for data platforms at InterSystems. At HIMSS, he said that the advice he would tell his younger self — or even the next generation —trying to break into the space, would be to never stop learning and to always think ahead. With the healthcare industry evolving and technology changing so fast, there’s always something new to learn.

Fried also said that it is essential to focus on how people are using the technology.

And John Nosta, an innovation theorist, said that he wishes he focused more on the back end of technology when he was first breaking into the space.

Nosta said that some of the fundamental aspects of technology still remain a bit mysterious to him and that it would have been beneficial for him to take a step back to really learn about all concepts of the technology.

Mac McMillan, CEO of CynergisTek, also said he would have taken more time to learn and study more aspects of technology and what the cybersecurity industry really is before moving into it.
