Last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration proposed a new framework to advance the use of real-world evidence across drug and biologic development efforts.

The announcement was a long time coming for many people in healthcare, and Chris Klomp, CEO of Collective Medical, believes that leveraging real-time data can help improve patient outcomes.

Klomp told Healthcare Analytics News™ that real-time data allows physicians to intervene earlier.

If a patient presents at an emergency department with complex pediatric asthma, real-time data alert the physician to transition the patient to a pediatric pulmonologist right away. Instead of having to wait a month — or longer — real-time data offer information that could lead to more expedient care and can help the patient start treatment earlier.

Real-time data can help improve workflows as well, as it immediately gives the information needed to the physician. Physicians do not need to stop what they are doing to gather extra information before making a decision, which improves efficiency.
